Another sign of the Google Phone

Posted by dkahn on August 29, 2007

Google isn’t keeping this a secret anymore. The “gPhone” IS coming out. (Engadget says that just the os is coming out and not the phone, but that’s the only time I’ve heard of that idea) I’ve been up late trying to find out all about it and I am totally speechless. Ok. Here it is. Competing with a $100 laptop, the gPhone (slang for google phone) is going to have every single google application including the google talk (probably the google earth) and maybe youtube. It will also have a gps system ($100 for all of that and a gps system? Wow that’s an amazing bargain. It’s a little scary too when Google knows where we are every second of the day.). Google’s talking with a couple of handset makers. They seem to have many prototypes and that they’re trying to pick out the best one and finish them up. They also seem to have already done a secret “public speaking” on the gPhone. Rumor says that they’ve talked with Verizon and AT&T. Verizon SEEMS to have bailed on this project once again (just like the iPhone. You’d think they would have learned from their mistake, the iPhone being the best phone in the market. (Note to Google:  Please don’t sell it to AT&T.) Google seems to not care if their phone is unlocked (they want to be free from services). Rumors are speculating on when the gPhone will be announced. Some say it’ll be announced in two weeks, post-Labor day, or 2008 1Q. My thinking is that it will be announced post-Labor day and sold in 2008 1Q, but you never know. This might all be a rumor…
